About Otero

Our Purpose

Otero Elementary School is nestled in a small community in the Cheyenne Meadows Neighborhood on the northern border of Ft. Carson Army Post and serves preschool through fifth grade students. In addition to the regular education program, Otero offers a gifted and talented program, Title 1, special education and pre-school classes. Otero provides education in the areas of art, music, physical education and computer technology.

Throughout the school year, Otero utilizes the school action plan as a means to focus efforts toward improving student achievement.  While there is still work to be done on raising student achievement, Otero students have made great gains in academic growth according to the Longitudinal Student Growth Model measurement used by the Colorado Department of Education.

Our Educators

The staff of Otero is qualified to serve the wide range of needs from the high-risk child to the gifted learner. Otero Elementary staff continues to support the district's need to work systemically--continuing to support curriculum alignment, student-teacher engagement and effective progress monitoring.  At the same time, we will focus on and improve instructional rigor in reading, writing, and math and build our professional knowledge of best practices in reading and writing. We will also continue building our professional learning community and expand our knowledge of Response to Intervention Models as provided by the District.

Our Students

Our students are proud to be Otero Osos (bears)! There are many opportunities for students to excel and grow at Otero. The academic curriculum, along with the arts and science curriculums, set the stage for a well-rounded education. Otero proudly provides a quality educational experience for the children of the brave men and women of the United States Military.
